World’s
fattest man died of a Christmas Day heart attack after a week-long energy drink
binge, it has been claimed.
Andres
Moreno, who once weighed 445 kilograms, is said to have gorged on can after can
of energy drink in the final days of his life.
Doctors
believe that a “problem with his wife” triggered some sort of “emotional
stress” that led to Mr Moreno dramatically abandoning a post-weight loss
surgery diet.
He
was found dead at his home in Ciudad Obregón, Mexico, several days later aged
just 38.
“He
drank more than six energy drinks a day according to his family and we believe
it could be a lot more than six,” Dr Jorge Ojeda, who treated Mr Moreno said.
“As
an obese man, although he was losing weight and was starting to move, exposing
yourself to a stimulant can cause an irregular heartbeat, and that or a heart
attack can lead to death.”
Despite
being diabetic, Mr Moreno is said to have drunk the equivalent of 14 cans of
sugary cola a day, more than one every hour.
The
official cause of his Christmas Day death was a heart attack and problems
associated with peritonitis.
At
his heaviest Mr Moreno weighed 445kg, although he’d naturally lost 120kg before
undergoing dramatic weight loss surgery last October.
He
continued losing weight after the surgery and even received a signed Real
Madrid shirt from Cristiano Ronaldo in the hope it would motivate him to stay
on track.
Before
his death Mr Moreno spoke of his hopes of slimming down to 76kg and being able
to start a family.
Although
he ate and drank a huge amount throughout his life, Mr Moreno was always larger
than average, even weighing 5.9kg at birth.
